boat trips

The Kyles of Bute is famous for its boating and historical connections with the sea as the main route for steamers and puffers to access the west coast of Scotland. Make sure you do not miss an opportunity to get out onto the water.

Tighnabruaich Sailing School is the oldest sailing school in Scotland, is based at Carry Farm and is run by Derek and Fiona during the summer months. It offers RYA tuition for children and adults from beginner to instructor level. Most courses are required to be pre-booked, but please do be in touch with Derek if he can help with any queries.

We now have a local yacht, Yamaha, offering sailing holidays in the Tighnabruaich area. Beagle Cruises is run by the very experienced Jock Hamilton who has many adventures under his belt and not only is a very experienced sailor, but a great cook too!

Fyne Sea Tours are based at Portavadie and offer daily boat tours on Loch Fyne aboard their 40 foot boat Fyne Explorer.

The last going paddle steamer in the world, The Waverley, visits Tighnabruaich during the summer months, calling at Tighnabruaich pier a couple of times a week.  The engine room is exceptional and well worth a visit.  The Waverley is a much loved and cared for boat and the noise of her paddles beating towards the village is always a welcome sound.
